Active Groups & Organizations

Watauga Avenue Presbyterian Church has several active groups and organizations to which one can belong.  Just let someone know if you are interested and you will be gladly received.

Our primary organizations are: Presbyterian Women, the Keenagers, and the Chancel Choir. You can find more about them on the following pages.

Presbyterian Women

Presbyterian Women.   The women of Watauga Avenue  Presbyterian Church meet monthly (except summer in two circles for bible study and fellowship.   On the 5th Tuesday of each month we meet to work on mission projects.  Current projects include collecting and trimming stamps to send to the Reinholts, trimming and sending bar codes from soup cans and other products to Sunset Gap and gathering and delivering personal hygiene bags to the Downtown Clinic, IHN and Safe Passage.  We also help deliver Meals on Wheels and Nutrition for the Elderly.  We arrange for the meal for the Fathers Day Church in the Park and we have an annual mother/daughter luncheon each May.  All women of the church are invited to join and encouraged to be a part of this fellowship.

Chancel Choir & Music Program

The Watauga Avenue Presbyterian Church Chancel Choir has a long and active tradition.  The Chancel Choir along with the Worship Team prepares our worshiping experience through a variety special services and events, along with the Morning Worship service each week.  Special music is prepared to match the liturgical calendar or church year from the Hanging of the Greens, Advent, Christmas and Epiphany through the season of Lent and Holy Week services, including Palm Sunday, Tenebrae/Good Friday and Easter.  Other special services include Pentecost, Church in the Park (each Father's Day), and Heritage Sunday (the last Sunday of September).  In years past the choir has been involved with other events, such as the Ice Cream Social & Talent Show.

Our choir director prepares the group through the singing of a wide variety of spiritual, gospel, contemporary and traditional church music, as well as a variety of secular music works for special events.  It is a joy to sing to the Glory of God through our voices each week.  If you are interested in singing with us, the choir rehearses each Wednesday evening at 7 pm in the Sanctuary.   We hope to see you there!

Instruments are a part of our worship experience and are utilized for a variety of musical selections.  We are most fortunate to have an Austin Pipe Organ, Steinway grand piano, and Sabathil & Son harpsichord at our disposal.  Our praise band includes piano, guitar, a variety of drums, and has over the years included the saxophone,  flute, and recorder with the talent from our members.
